“This is what keeps African-Americans from joining the
Republican Party," said Sheila Raines, a member of a San Bernardino County
Republican group. "I'm really hurt. I cried for 45 minutes. I would have
to say it is one of the things that will keep mixed independents from voting
for the party also (that would be me).
What makes somebody who is an African American member of the Republican party
get this offended. Possibly the picture in the local Republican newsletter
(Chaffey Community Republican Women, Federated) with Senator Barack Obama on
what appears to be a ten dollar foodstamp surrounded by a bucket of chicken,
watermelon, Koolaid, and ribs.
When is someone going to calm the Republican Party down? This is getting so
much bigger than this election. In the past twenty four hours I have heard and
seen more angry Republican faithful and more angry Republican blogs and emails
than I could have ever imagined was possible.
I have some understanding of the current feelings (as I tend to lean slightly
right of the middle), but the party is shooting itself in both feet and the
head with all of this chaos. Thos who are not far to the right are finding it
very hard not to think the whole party has not lost it’s collective mind. Then
early reporting states that the woman responsible (in the near Los
Angeles region of California)
did not think the image of Senator Obama with chicken, watermelon, and ribs
would be offensive. Oh I pray that there will be a report tomorrow that this
was a hoax.
You can blame the media coverage, the Democrats or whoever, but whatever is
happening; it is going to soon leave us with a one party government if this is
not toned down quickly. I am not even sure if the most left people in the
universe would want that to happen.
The Republicageddon is upon us and I really do not want to see it happen nor
can we afford it to happen. I hope and pray that someone with some sphere of
influence within the Republican Party would calm all of this down before this
escalates.
Those who are Democrats, please remain calm and do not escalate this any more
than it needs to be. Both sides need to calm down.
Again, we have really big problems right now as a nation without adding
insanity like this.
Republican presidential candidate Senator John McCain's campaign co-chairman, (and former Texas Senator) Phil Gramm has resigned from his post with McCain, but not before a bit of irony. The man who had the nerve to insult the American public did not go down with a little whining of his own.
This drama began when Mr. Grimm stated publically that we (the American public) were a “nation of whiners” because of the public’s grumbling and outright complaining about the economy.
This man, as part of stepping down this man stated “It is clear to me that Democrats want to attack me rather than debate Senator McCain on important economic issues facing the country.“
Boy that sure sounds like whining and complaining to me. Maybe that means that the McCain camp is a “campaign of whiners, in a mental candidacy.”
All of that running his mouth (whining) about us whining (i.e. insulting all of us who are part of the American public), and he leaves the post with whiny comments like this.
This again proves that these candidates are not able to choose people for key positions. This means when one of these men is elected president he will be appointing and picking people for various positions. If one of these candidates fills the government with people who make scary, amateurish, and stupid mistakes in public, we are in for a tough four years.
This man, as part of a campaign for president insulted me and most of America by calling us whiners and now finally I get to return the favor.
Mr. Gramm; Oh Stop Whining and Complaining, Shut-Up and Quit
I suppose now I have to finish this because I have to some whining and some meditating on my mental recession to do.
What is wrong with everybody? Fox is reporting that Jessie Jackson used the “N” word in that conversation he had on the air thinking he was of the air.
The point of his off the air conversation was to say that Senator Obama is talking down to black people. I can think of few things one can do to “talk down” to African Americans that are as impacting as use of the “N” word.
The crazy part of all of this is that this man thinks of himself as an Obama supporter. This man also thinks of himself as a leader in the African American community and here he is on tape talking about Senator Obama in such a negative light and is using some of the worst language that one can use in discussing African Americans.
I have never been a huge Jessie Jackson fan, but this is unfortunate for him that his private conversation was recorded like that. But, I guess he has nobody to blame but himself for whispering into a microphone in front of a camera and assuming that nobody would hear him.
I suppose that this is a sign of the passing of the baton from one generation of leaders in the African American community to the next generation. This particular incident is just one indicator as to why the baton needs to change hands.
President or no president, the multi-racial and well-spoken Senator Obama seems like a good choice to be a leader in the African American community.
As far as the election, the only thing I think that has happened here is that Jessie Jackson has just lost much of his voice in terms of influencing this election and possibly within the African American community as a whole. For Senator Obama it seems as though this is just a small distraction from the regular stresses of the campaign.
I just head a story about an airline that decided to cancel a flight because the waiting passengers were angered by the fact that the crew showed up late. This just reinforces what I have been suspecting as of late. Customer service is a thing of the past and the airlines have lost their minds.
I have a friend who was flying recently with United Airlines and had several delays, missed flights, one arrival that was so late it cut back on his business trip, and one flight that was so late that he had to cancel the business.
On the last actual flight that he did get on, he was to fly to San Francisco International and connect with a flight going to Portland. Both flights were late, but the flight he was on that he actually arrived hours (yes plural) late.
The airline formed a line at a counter staffed with only two personnel for all of the people who had missed connecting flights and began the grueling task of going through the disgruntled “would be” passengers two at a time. Around that same time two other flights arrived just as late and added more people to the line.
From there he noticed that the airline just booked people for the next day and gave them nothing to eat, no place to sleep (they all slept on airport chairs or the floor unless they paid for their own hotel room) no cab, no blanket, no nothing except the little bag with toothpaste and soaps.
My buddy tried to call the airline and immediately knew that he had been transported to the world of outsourced phone centers. He was bounced around, stalled, hung up on several times (“accidently”), argued with, and finally hung up on after hours so he could not call back. He called back two days later and went through the exact same process except the staff was far ruder.
When all else failed he tried the U.S. offices and spoke to fussy domestic staff who simply referred him back to the same number.
Finally my friend got frustrated and searched out the email address of the C.E.O. of United Airlines and sent him an email.
When all was said and done (there was more than what is listed here) he finally received an email that said they were sorry but they could give him a voucher for one-hundred dollars (which is barely enough to park at the airport at current rates) or five thousand frequent flyer miles (which will fly him exactly………..zero miles)
On a trip he had booked with three destinations and with stopovers for most flights only one flight was on time. He had to sleep in the airport. He didn’t get to complete his business. He spent two days on the phone with rude employees and being hung up on and this is what they give him.
United Airlines has gone to new lows in customer service and is sinking fast into worse customer service.
There needs to be a way to fight back against this poor treatment of passengers. There has to be some way to force these people to consider changing these terrible business practices.
Periodically there is talk of the government stepping in and regulating how this industry is run. Due to the bad service my friends and I and stories like the one today, I am convinced that that is a need or the industry is going to fall into more turmoil and we will suffer with this sort of terrible service.
In an interview with the Rocky Mountain News on Monday, Independent Party presidential hopeful (it is hard to type that without believing it should be followed by a punchline), Ralph Nader, made some very interesting statements.
When asked what is different about Senator Obama relative to other democrats he has run against, he stated that the only difference was that Senator Obama is “half African-American.” Oh yes he did. He went there.
He also said that Senator Obama is trying to (are you sure you are ready for this, hold on to your chair) “talk white.”
Did a person running for president actually accuse another candidate of talking white? Seroiusly?
It is interesting that the other candidates have mostly relied on their supporters and spouses to say incredibly stupid things, but not Mr. Nader. He doesn’t need others to do his “stupid” work, he is perfectly capable of doing that himself.
This crazy candidate (I will avoid the other descriptive terms that come to mind) even took a shot at Jessie Jackson while trying to explain why Senator Obama is talking white. He stated that one of the reasons he is talking white is (hold on, I have to compose myself) he doesn’t want to “appear like Jessie Jackson.”
Holy smokes!
Is this guy for real? I seriously think he has come to believe that he can gain more support than he has gotten in past elections by getting the racist vote.
Remember all of the talk about voter who said race mattered in the elections mostly voting for Senator Clinton. It seems he heard that and decided that being a racist was his best bet in trying to get support.
I have looked at comments on several blogs and some chats on the subject and this foolishness seems to have some support.
As for me, a person who does not belong to political party, I have to say I hate to have to refer to myself as an independent voter for fear that I will be associated to such an person (I’m being politically correct and nice instead of using many of the other descriptive terms that come to mind for this person).
Just to leave us with a thought, what exactly are the implications of saying that a person of color or of mixed origin can attempt to “talk white?”
Is he referring to that fact he does not use slang or “Ebonics” or sound like any of the rap stars on the television. That would mean that he is saying that those who are white and “talk white” are okay in sounding educated, but any person of color or mixed origin who “talks white” is faking it to distance themselves from someone (as Mr. Nader implies) as stupid as Jessie Jackson or other persons of color.
Is he saying that “talking white” speaks of people who have money and that he is avoiding talking about those in the inner cities and poor neighborhoods of our country. As if there are no people of color in these better neighborhoods and only people of color live in poor areas and inner cities.
Need I go on? How dare anyone who is not a publicly proclaimed racist support this man. This is an assault on our sensibilities and the Independent party has a responsibility to all of us who call ourselves Americans to pull the plug on this racist madman.
The Reverend (I use the term against my better judgment) Jeremiah Right cannot really expect anyone of any sense to take him seriously after this week. I have been pondering the events of the past week and cannot imagine this man to believe that he is somehow a representative of God any more than people who crash airplanes into buildings.

As this weekends events progressed, the media blitz undertaken by Mr. Jeremiah Right (I will not be using the titles Reverend or Pastor from this point on) were clearly a sign of self-serving as opposed to service to the God represented in the Bible.
His message (other than to express the fact he is bitter with Senator Barack Obama, the Caucasian race, and America as a whole) is on that only represents a certain culture. By culture, I am not speaking of African Americans, I am speaking of a subculture of this people group or a particular segment of that group. Although he may find himself surrounded by this subculture where he resides and may be able to find pockets of these individuals littered here and there throughout the country, this is definitely not a representation of the views of African Americans throughout the nation or the “African American Church”; whatever that is.
I find it quite presumptuous to assume that because you are around several churches like this and have been to some in other places that all or most of predominantly African American churches hold these beliefs or conform to his stereotypes of how a church would act.
It is coming clear over the past couple of days that there are people who have had contact with this man recently who feel that his motive for all of this was revenge on Senator Barack Obama.
I applaud Sen. Obama’s loyalty but also have to question his judgment in knowing when a person is not the type of person you need feeding into your life. I do believe that he probably did not hear the particular sermons that were repeated over and over on the television as the church is in one state and the senator works in another. That being the case, he probably was not the most regular of attendees at church on Sundays. The problem is that this person can flip out like this and in almost twenty years in a close relationship you do not notice.
Mr. Wright has publicly embarrassed a person who stood by him despite the fact that it could ruin his career, much (if not most) of the African American race and those of mixed racial makeup, and many believers in the Christ who now have to spend time again trying to explain that Christians are not all crazy simply because one who is crazy has gotten a lot of air time.
Mr. Wright had the nerve to disguise his evil intention of attacking the man that he previously felt God had called him to mentor as a call for unity and a message of God. This is one of the most egregious acts ever performed.
I am still undecided about any of the three candidates I feel we are stuck with, but I think the nation as a whole has an obligation to take action against this man. People should not give airtime to this man. He is getting a lot of press and getting ready to release a book soon which means a lot of people want to read it simply to see what this crazy man has to say. Resist the urge and don’t buy a copy! Wait until you can find it in a thrift store. Do not support this man and his message of spite by giving him your money. If a station or group gives him airtime, send a letter or email expressing your disgust.
I have personally decided to stop using the title “reverend” for this man as I consider that to be a show of respect for a person and I do not find him worthy of that sort of respect.
Finally, if you are a believer, who believes in what he has done this week, look at James 4:6 which states in part that “…God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble.” This weekend’s events were clearly about hurt pride and a selfish attempt to hurt an individual that God put under his mentoring wing. African American, Caucasian, Chinese, or otherwise, this is not acceptable to the God of the Bible. If the underlying motivation of a message is evil, the entire message is usually tainted with evil and cannot be trusted.
Mr. Wright may hit on a truth here and there, but even a broken clock is right twice a day.
